Punta Arenas: Walk with Penguins on Magdalena & Marta Island

1.Walk with Penguins on Magdalena & Marta Island

★★★★★★★★★★4.6 · 611 reviews · 5 hours · from $150Our pick

Walk among Magellanic penguins and sea lions on Magdalena and Marta Islands near Punta Arenas, with guides, coffee, and wildlife.

“It was a wonderful experience! The tour was well organized and the staff was friendly and professional. The group was LARGE… about 100 people, but we were the only group on the island so it was manageable and people spread out on the walk. The boat is a pontoon boat that seats 100… Be advised that you float in the surge off of one of the islands to view the sea lions… and there are 30 minute large bus rides to and from the tour office to the boat launch… so if you get motion sickness, definitely take some meds before travel!”

“Juan and the driver were knowledgeable and great to work with. Juan was fluent in English. We visited the fort and even saw a whale swimming by. Juan was well versed in the history of the area from past to present. We stopped by a little family owned restaurant where we sampled the empanadas made by proprietors of the restaurant. Viewed the local architecture, which was mid-century modern. We then went downtown to the look out area and got a panoramic view of the area. Lovely place to visit.”

“The trip was great, we really enjoyed it also so so many pretty thing! The only thing that was a little bit annoying is having to buy the tickets to the cave and Torres del Paine yourself and that it’s not included in the tour. Furthermore it was really easy to sleep in the van because it was so early. The guide was really nice and funny! The places were absolutely beautiful and you walk for a bit but it’s not a hike everyone could do it. I would really recommend this tour!”

Private Torres del Paine and Milodon from Punta Arenas in an early, efficient day, with an English guide, Wi-Fi transport, and big scenery.

“Cannot recommend this experience highly enough, both for the park and our guide. Juan doesn’t deliver a scripted lecture like some tours, but rather a free flowing conversation filled with the history, geology, ecology and culture of the Magallanes region that adapted and customized to our interests and itinerary. My only regret is only scheduling a single day to visit Torres del Paine, and already planning a future trip back to Patagonia.”

“We loved our tour! It was amazing seeing the landscape and animals in the Patagonia on the drive. It is a long drive to get there, but it’s well worth it and the driver/guide made it fun! And the ferry breaks it up and it was a good experience. Penguins we’re a highlight! The park is amazing and the workers are so passionate and do incredible work. Stopped at a great place for lunch on the way back which was reasonably priced. Plenty of stops to stretch legs, see some of the oldest ranches in the region, and go to the bathroomz”

Punta Arenas boat trip to Magdalena Island for a guided walk at Los Pingüinos Natural Monument, with English narration.

“The island and the penguins were great but the trip was terrible. First off since it was advertised as shore excursion we assumed that we would have transportation. Nope After having their information translated by a taxi man we found out that we needed to take a taxi to the car ferry port We did get there on time but no one was there to help us. Someone else told us what to do. The car ferry cost $50 the taxi costs $10 and we paid $230 for what????? Don't waste your money.”
